Generative AI Policy

Our Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence

At Insight Legal, we use technology to support the efficient delivery of high-quality legal services to our clients. This includes the careful use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools where appropriate.

We recognise that our clients trust us with confidential, sensitive and personal information. Protecting that information remains fundamental to the way we work.

This policy explains how we use Generative AI, the safeguards we have in place and the standards we apply when using this technology in connection with client work.

What is Generative AI?

Generative AI refers to technology that can generate or assist with the creation of content, including text, summaries, drafts and other material, in response to instructions.

AI can be a useful tool in a legal practice. It may assist with tasks such as summarising information, producing first drafts or undertaking administrative or research processes.

However, AI is a tool to assist our people. We remain responsible for the legal services we provide, the advice we give and the work we produce.

How We Protect Your Confidential Information

We recognise that not all AI tools provide the same level of protection for information entered into them.

For this reason, we do not input confidential or personal information into publicly available or open AI platforms.

We Check AI-Generated Work

AI can sometimes produce information that is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading. It can also generate material that appears convincing but is incorrect.

For this reason, we do not treat AI-generated content as a substitute for legal analysis, professional judgment or human review.

Any AI-assisted work is subject to appropriate review before it is relied upon, incorporated into our work or provided to you. We do not rely on AI alone for substantive legal advice.

Our Lawyers Remain Responsible

Using AI does not transfer responsibility for your legal work to a technology provider or AI system.

Our lawyers remain responsible for:

  • the legal advice we provide;
  • the professional judgment we exercise;
  • the work we produce;
  • the advice and documents we provide to you; and
  • compliance with our professional and legal obligations.

The use of AI does not mean that we simply accept its output. Relevant legal sources are checked against appropriate authoritative sources before they are relied upon.

Transparency

We believe clients should be able to ask questions about how technology is used in connection with their legal work.

If you would like to know more about our use of Generative AI, including how it may be used in connection with your matter, please ask the lawyer responsible for your work.

Our Commitment to You

Our use of technology does not change our fundamental responsibilities to you.

We remain committed to:

  • protecting your confidential information;
  • respecting your privacy;
  • providing legal services competently and professionally;
  • applying appropriate professional judgment;
  • checking work before it is relied upon or provided to you;
  • being transparent about our use of AI where appropriate; and
  • remaining responsible for the legal services we provide.

AI is a tool that may assist us in delivering our services. It does not replace the people, professional judgment or responsibility behind the legal advice we provide.
